Sherwood EMYF
English Methodist Youth Fellowship (EMYF)
is the English division of the Sherwood Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF). Since
our initiation our youth has steadily grown in numbers and christian maturity.
EMYF has historically boasted a wide of range ages in its members, ranging from
those in grade 8 to those well established in their working career.
Additionally, in previous years the youth has worked hard to recruit a larger
body of members, and as of this year, by the provision of God, we have a
healthy core group of members who attend every week. Consequently, the focus of
this year for the youth group has been on developing interpersonal
relationships, and to facilitate a closer walk with God for all members. To
achieve this, EMYF has put forward the theme “Dinner with God”.
The theme “Dinner with God” draws upon the
Last Supper, where all the disciples at their peak of Christian education under
Jesus, were able to have fellowship and communion before they set off to spread
the word of God to the world. EMYF hopes to model this, where it is our
intention that each member of the youth can communicate and have fellowship
freely with each other, and aid each other in growing stronger in Christ.
To practically achieve this, the youth has
devised a schedule where bible studies occur every fortnight on Saturday, and a
fellowship/fun event occurs on the alternative Saturdays. We have also
developed small fellowship groups, each with 2 mentors (senior youth members),
to encourage mentor-mentee relationships with the younger youth members. This
has also been the basis for a prayer partner system.
This year we have enjoyed lawn bowling
together (see picture below). And later this year we are looking to have a Big
Christian Day Out, where all our youth members will travel down to the Gold
Coast during the day, and then move to the hinterland at Mt Tambourine for
Dinner and a night time Glow Worms trek. Please join us, if you are looking for
a youth group who focuses on helping your growth with God, as well as having
fun. We usually meet Saturday nights 7:00pm at Sherwood Methodist Church
(English Hall).

I can
do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
When I was twelve
years old, I remember having a good time with my friends and family on for a
very special occasion. We were just partying the whole night. However, the next
morning I woke up I had a very unusual sickness, which was one that I have
definitely not experienced before.
The pain was
indescribable, my whole body ached and it felt like there was a sharp knife
piercing through my stomach. Not only did it hurt I felt like there was a huge
rock on top of me, which prevented me from getting up or even lifting any part
of my body. Not even my mum, dad or sister could move me and because of my weak
condition I could not eat or drink. I also could not take any medication.
This unusual
sickness lasted 2 days, and I still could not eat, drink, talk, move or do anything
that I would normally do. At that time I was just thinking about the worst
situations and complained about why am I still unwell. Then, I remembered
something that was so important and that was too P-R-A-Y pray!
While I was
praying I remembered what my dad always said to me, “remember to always quote
the scriptures from the bible, it is so important to do that because you are
reminding God that he has already promised it and he will heal you!” I
remembered that God said that in his stripes I am healed and just kept on
repeating that scripture over and over again but still nothing happened.
A few minutes
later my Grandmother who had travelled all the way from Malaysia to Australia for
a vacation, walked in my room with a bible and asked me to repeat scriptures
from the bible after her.
(Psalms 6:2 NKJV)
“Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak; O LORD,
heal me, for my bones are troubled.”
(Jeremiah 17:14 NKJV)
“Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved,
For You are my praise.”
(Exodus 15:26)
"If you will listen carefully to the voice
of the Lord your God, and do what
is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his
statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the
Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you."
She then prayed for me for a while and left me alone to
rest. I kept on repeating the scriptures in my head and after, I slowly fell asleep.
The next Morning EVERYTHING was gone! Pain GONE, I was
HEALED! I was so excited that I screamed so happily and my Dad came rushing in
thinking that something bad had happened. Amazingly it was also Sunday! I was
so excited to go to church I quickly dressed myself and went along with my
whole family PRAISING God for his goodness and kindness and so very GRATEFUL
that he has HEALED me.
I think that it is so important to share our
testimonies because
it states in Revelation 12:11, “we overcome our enemy be the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of our testimony”.
He loves us all so very much and that is what
drove Him to robe himself in flesh just to have that flesh die, so that we can
be free! And that you can see what He endured for our sakes. No matter who you
are or where you’ve been He died for you, so that you can be saved!
So Never Give up! Keep praying and
it shall be given unto you! AMEN!
